Moving to Arkansas:
your family's medical records checklist.

Arkansas requires an immunization record under Ark. Code §6-18-702 before your child can attend school. When you move in, you'll need to get those records transferred to WebIZ (Arkansas's statewide immunization registry), obtain the required certificate from a licensed Arkansas provider, and confirm your child meets current Arkansas requirements — which include several screenings not all other states mandate. Here's what you need, where to get it, and how to avoid the most common enrollment delays.

Required at Enrollment

What Arkansas schools need at the door

Ark. Code §6-18-702 requires that every child enrolling in an Arkansas school submit an immunization record showing current compliance with the state's required vaccine schedule. A licensed Arkansas healthcare provider must sign off on the record.

What Arkansas schools require:
  • Certificate of Immunization — completed and signed by a licensed Arkansas provider or local health unit
  • DTaP, IPV, MMR, Hep B, Varicella (age-appropriate doses)
  • Hepatitis A — 2 doses (required for K–5 entry; out-of-state children often missing this)
  • Tdap booster and MenACWY at 7th grade entry
  • Physical exam — required at kindergarten entry and 7th grade per district policy in most major districts
  • Vision and hearing screening documentation — required at specific grades under Ark. Code §6-18-1501
  • Prior school's cumulative records and proof of residency

The most common pitfall for families moving from other states: Hepatitis A. Arkansas requires 2 Hep A doses for kindergarten through grade 5 entry. Many states (including Texas and Georgia) do not require Hep A for school, so children transferring in may have only 1 or 0 doses on record. See your new Arkansas pediatrician before attempting enrollment.

Immunization Records

Getting your child's vaccine history into Arkansas's system

WebIZ is Arkansas's statewide immunization information system, managed by the Arkansas Department of Health. If your child received vaccines in Arkansas previously, those doses may already be in WebIZ. Your new Arkansas pediatrician can query the registry and add missing records received from your prior state.

To get out-of-state vaccine records into WebIZ, bring your child's complete immunization records to the first appointment with a new Arkansas provider. The provider can verify doses and enter them into WebIZ. You can also contact your local Arkansas county health unit for walk-in immunization services if needed.

How prior school records transfer

When you enroll at a new Arkansas school, the receiving school typically requests records from your former district. Under Ark. Code §6-18-702(b), Arkansas schools may allow conditional enrollment for up to 30 days while immunization paperwork is completed. However, the school may require you to show proof that an appointment is scheduled. Interstate transfers can take several weeks — carry complete copies of all records in your possession.

District Enrollment

Major Arkansas school districts and where to start

Arkansas has more than 230 public school districts. The largest serve the cities where most relocating families settle:

Check your specific district's website for current enrollment periods, required documentation list, and deadline for completing health forms after conditional enrollment.

State-Specific Requirements

Arkansas requirements you may not see in other states

1

BMI screening (Act 1220)

Under Arkansas Act 1220 (codified in education and health law), most Arkansas schools conduct annual BMI screening and provide results to parents. This is a reporting requirement for schools — it does not require any action by parents at enrollment, but you may receive a BMI report card from the school nurse. Ask your child's pediatrician about any questions raised by screening results.

2

Vision and hearing screening

Under Ark. Code §6-18-1501, Arkansas schools perform vision and hearing screenings at specific grade levels. If your child has existing screening documentation from their prior state, bring it — schools may use it or may conduct their own screening.

3

Dental screening at K–2 entry

Arkansas requires schools to provide dental health education; some districts also conduct oral health screenings at kindergarten entry. Check with your school nurse whether a dental form is required at enrollment in your specific district.

Arkansas exemption types

Arkansas recognizes three types of exemptions from school immunization requirements under Ark. Code §6-18-702: medical, religious, and philosophical. The exemption types, governing statute, and process are listed at the Arkansas Department of Health.
