Alaska licensed childcare programs are governed by 7 AAC 57 (Alaska's childcare licensing regulations) and must meet immunization requirements under AS 14.30.125. Alaska licensed childcare facilities — including licensed daycare centers, family childcare homes, and group childcare programs — must maintain immunization records for each child in care. The immunization requirements for childcare are grounded in AS 14.30.125 and implemented through 7 AAC 57, Alaska's childcare licensing regulations. Facilities licensed by the Alaska Department of Health Child Care Program are required to follow these rules.
Hepatitis A is required for Alaska childcare enrollment. Many out-of-state families are surprised by this — confirm the Hep A 2-dose series is complete before enrollment day in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau, or Mat-Su Valley programs.

VacTrAK is Alaska's statewide immunization registry, maintained by the Alaska Department of Health. It's the official system for tracking immunization records across the state — including in remote and bush communities. Licensed childcare providers can access VacTrAK to verify a child's immunization status.

Alaska distinguishes between licensed childcare programs (regulated by the DOH Child Care Program under 7 AAC 57) and camps, which may be licensed under different rules or not licensed at all. Here's how they differ:
Anchorage — Alaska's largest city has the most licensed childcare options. The Anchorage area is served by multiple licensed daycare centers, family childcare homes, and preschool programs. The Child Care Connection program through the Municipality of Anchorage can help families find licensed providers. Most Anchorage programs use VacTrAK records for immunization verification.
Fairbanks / Interior Alaska — Fairbanks area licensed childcare includes programs serving military families from Fort Wainwright and Eielson AFB. The Fairbanks North Star Borough has a range of licensed programs. Families new to the area (including PCS moves) should bring complete immunization records — multiple providers and prior states can cause gaps in VacTrAK.
Mat-Su Valley (Wasilla/Palmer) — The Mat-Su area is Alaska's fastest-growing region. Licensed childcare demand has grown alongside the population. Mat-Su Borough public health offices have VacTrAK access for families needing record lookups or catch-up immunizations before childcare enrollment.
Juneau — Southeast Alaska's capital has licensed childcare options concentrated in the Juneau area. Because Juneau is not accessible by road, families relocating here should ensure all digital records are gathered before arrival — requesting paper or electronic records from prior providers in advance saves significant time.
